School beginning with some new changes

No major district wide changes, individual schools

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque Public School students will be heading back to class next week.  There are no real major changes happening to schools district wide, but some individual schools will see some changes.

All APS schools follow a set dress code, but changes will be coming to at least two high schools. Those are Volcano Vista and Eldorado. That's where students will have to wear shirts with sleeves.

Sagging your pants or having skirts and shorts cut too high at any school won't make dress code. Hats and caps are discouraged during school hours unless while doing an outdoor activity.

For the second year in a row, the price of lunches for students will be going up a dime. That now comes out to $1.95 for elementary kids and about $2.20 for high school students. The meals are also expected to be a lot healthier as well.

Officials say it's a good idea to check in with your child's individual school or check their websites for specifics on getting ready for Monday.

"For the most part, there are no district wide changes that are going to have huge implications other than the introduction of discovery education which we're going to go over in a presentation next week," says APS Spokesperson Monica Armenta.

District officials also say that a big announcement is expected on Friday afternoon in regard to lunches for students from low income families, they also say it's all good news.

For complete information on what you need in going back to school for APS, you can find it at www.aps.edu/news/back-to-school-monday-aug.-13
