Rio Rancho student arrested after alleged Facebook threat

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A Rio Rancho student was arrested and booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center after police say he made threats on Facebook.

Devan Scott, 18, was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct after allegedly making threats on an ex-girlfriend’s Facebook page.

According to the police report, the post said, “If all you want I’ll end it all [at] gun point.”

A concerned parent called police about the post and police considered it a possible threat to the public and to Scott himself.

"With the recent events in Connecticut, and past school violence issues, we take any type of threat against any member of our student population very seriously,” said Sgt. Nicholas Onken of the Rio Rancho Police Department. “This is not something we joke around with.”

Rio Rancho High School Principal Richard Von Ancken says Scott will be allowed back in school this week to take his finals, but says school officials will be monitoring the situation.

School officials have yet to determine any follow-up discipline, but Van Ancken says counseling is usually mandated after an incident like this.

Rio Rancho Police say parents and students should always contact them whether they see or hear a threat on Facebook.
