Project closing major South Valley road

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The street in front of Rio Grande High School will closed for more than 10 days to allow a contractor to complete a job, Bernalillo County announced Thursday.

The closure of Arenal Road SW between Foothill Drive and Tapia Boulevard is scheduled to begin Aug. 2 with the road reopening on Aug. 14. During that time local access will be maintained for residents and the school where classes resume Aug. 18.

A detour will be established using San Ygnacio Road although the county is suggesting motorists avoid the section of Arenal if possible.
