SOCORRO, N.M. (AP) - Regents at New Mexico Tech have revisited several actions from two years ago in a push to comply with the state's Open Meetings Act.
Last week, regents approved several campus construction contracts that were approved during two emergency sessions during the summer of 2008. The Attorney General's Office determined those two meetings didn't meet the criteria for emergency gatherings.
Last month, Tech regents were told they must stop holding meetings by conference call merely for their convenience, call "emergency" meetings only when an emergency exists, be more specific when explaining why they are going into closed executive sessions, approve minutes of previous meetings sooner and give proper notice of meetings.
Regents president Ann Murphy Daily says the board wants complete transparency and compliance with all aspects of the law.
