Martinez makes special visit to schools

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Some students got a special visit from Governor Susana Martinez Monday.
She read to first-graders at a number of schools, including Marie M. Hughes Elementary.
The governor used the event to stress the importance of reading both in and out of the classroom.
Back in June, she announced that the state had purchased 30,000 books to be given to every first grader in the state.
Martinez is encouraging the kids and their families to use them now to build up their reading skills they may have lost over summer break.
