Lobos confessing wild ways on Facebook

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - The University of New Mexico, the state's flagship university, is not exactly known for wild parties or a crazy campus culture, until now.

"We have some sad, some funny, some kind of raunchy and some just like really bad," said Nathan Guerra.

Guerra is getting a lot of people linked to UNM to confess past misdeeds through the UNM Confessions Facebook page.

The UNM sophomore started the page last Sunday.  He's already at more than 7,800 'Likes' and tons of submissions.

"I'm actually very, very surprised on how quick the page has picked up," Guerra said.

So far he has posted hundreds of confessions.

A few examples include:

"Swimming in the duck pond... Twice"

"I once ran across Johnson Field butt naked after getting skunked in beer pong"

"I slept with my professor during office hours to pass the class. You have to do what you have to do to get to medical school!"

Guerra told News 13 he has been caught off guard by a few of them, and while he can't be sure all the confessions are true, he is certain at least some of them are.

"Some people actually have sent in pictures to prove their stories," he said.

He believes the key to the success of the page is that it's completely anonymous.

Anyone with something to confess just clicks the link on the Facebook page and can safely bare their souls.

"It doesn't log your IP address, it doesn't log your name, nothing of that sort, not even your e-mail," said Guerra.

He does have to do some heavy filtering.  So far he has received nearly 1,500 confessions but only posted just more than 350.

As for reaction, he said it's been mostly favorable.

"So far it's been 80 percent positive, 20 percent negative," Guerra said.

Since this is not a university-sanctioned page a UNM spokesperson said there is not much they can really do about it although they do encourage students to be cautious when confessing.

Guerra said the page is not all about raunchy and raucous behavior. He also gets a lot of serious soul-baring from people dealing with depression, self-doubt and other issues.
