ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent Winston Brooks told members of the school board on Friday that he's not suggesting a lawsuit against the state over budget cuts, he just wants it considered.
Brooks also says it's an idea that's been kicked around even before he came along by the New Mexico Coalition of School Administrators and the New Mexico School Board Association.
APS school board members say they'd like to learn more about it before the consider the option of the lawsuit.
Just last week, Governor Bill Richardson said all state agencies including public schools will have to cut another 3.2 percent from their budgets.
APS says that'll take away roughly another $20 million which could equal the loss of about 320 jobs.
Superintendent Brooks will attend another Legislative Board of Finance meeting in Santa Fe on August 12. He'll present those findings at the next board meeting, where the lawsuit option can be discussed.
