RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) - A software issue on Monday caused heating problems at eight Rio Rancho schools.

The affected schools are Enchanted Hills Elementary, Ernest Stapleton Elementary, Maggie Cordova Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary, Puesta del Sol Elementary, Rio Rancho Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Mountain View Middle School.

Kim Vesely with the Rio Rancho Public Schools said the district has sent a phone message to parents who have students at the affected schools to let them know they can pick up their children early if they wish.

Other students will be moved to warmer areas of the buildings.

Vesley said the contractor is working to fix the problem. She said the district will know Monday afternoon if classes will be canceled on Tuesday because of the heating problem.
