ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Zombies and the brain have a lot in common, according to a University of New Mexico graduate delivering a serious lecture Thursday evening.

Timothy Verstynen is speaking on how the behavior of horror movie zombies can be understood as a series of neurological impairments.

Verstynen, an assistant professor of psychology at Carnegie Mellon University, has produced animated shorts on his theories and even presented them at Zombiecon, a zombie convention.

His lecture begins at 7 p.m. at the Centennial Engineering Auditorium on campus.

Beyond zombies, Verstynen specializes in cognition, brain and behavior.

"My research centers on how we plan our actions, how this changes with experience and how the organization of the underlying neural pathways regulates these abilities," his online profile at CMU says.
