ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The Rio Grande Zoo's new baby howler monkey went on display Monday for the first time.

The as-yet-unnamed monkey was born in January. The baby's sex hasn't been determined because it's sticking close to its mom, which it's expected to do for the next six months.

Howler monkeys are golden in color when they're born. The fur on males turns black as they mature, while female howler monkeys keep their golden color.

Weather permitting, mother and baby will be on display daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. near the pheasant exhibit.
