ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque Public Schools is investigating what they call a physical incident between a substitute teacher and a student at Jimmy Carter Middle School.

Maria Foulenfont admits her son, Isaac, acts out sometimes, which she attributes to his ADHD.

However, she said she believes a substitute teacher at Jimmy Carter who allegedly yanked her son out of his chair Wednesday by his sweatshirt should have handled the situation better.

Foulenfont said Isaac was tapping on his desk during a special needs class and wouldn’t stop when the sub asked him to.

“He didn't want to [stop] so he kept on and she pulled him by the back of his hoodie and yanked him from his desk,” Foulenfont said.

She said her son got scared and went to the principal’s office with red marks around his neck from the sweatshirt.

The principal called APS police, and they are investigating.

Foulenfont said her son has been unruly before, but those incidents were treated differently.

“He would do that to his other teachers and they would call security and security would come and take him to the principal and they would call me,” Foulenfont said.

Isaac is OK, and was in school Thursday.

An APS spokesperson told News 13 they can’t comment further on the issue because it’s a personnel matter.

They are not releasing the substitute’s name at this point, but said she has been placed on the 'Do Not Call' list for the district.

The allegations come on the heels of two other recent incidents at Jimmy Carter.

In October, a 7th grade teacher was fired for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old student.

Last month, a teacher and two education assistants got into trouble for inappropriately restraining a 12-year old.

They were all placed on leave.

The EAs are back at work and the teacher no longer works for APS.
