ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A big change may be coming to the Albuquerque Public Schools calendar that would move spring break from March into April.
The proposed 2013-14 calendar won unanimous approval Tuesday from the APS Policy Committee. The calendar still needs and OK from the full school board.
The rationale for the move is to give teachers more time to teach the content for the state standards-based assessment.
The change would mean APS spring break will no longer coincide with spring break at the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College.
Under the proposed schedule spring break would be April 14-18, 2014.
The first day of school would be Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2012, and the last day would be Thursday May 22.
