ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Suspensions have been made at an Albuquerque high school due to rumors around threats.

An APS spokeswoman tells KRQE News 13 that seven students were suspended at Monzano High School for spreading rumors.

Other students at Monzano say the rumors are getting out of control.

"They're just taking it as a joke, and they shouldn't because some people are really scared about the school getting shot," said Yali, a junior at Monzano.

APS says there have also been rumors at Volcano Vista and La Cueva High School.

In a letter to parents , APS says the Sandy Hook tragedy and the Mayan calendar are adding fuel to the problem.

All the rumors have been investigated and the district says these are not credible, but police are investigating every rumor. Students found to be spreading rumors or threats will be disciplined.

But APS doesn't want to discourage students or staff from reporting concerns.

This is just the latest round of threats against New Mexico schools.

Rio Rancho, Belen , Los Lunas, and Ruidoso Public Schools also recently had threats of school shootings.
