BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) - An Albuquerque man died near Belen Friday night when he apparently drover around a railroad crossing gate and into the path of a freight train, according to New Mexico State Police.
Officers suspect Larry Camacho, 59, was trying to beat the train when he bypassed the lowered crossing arm on Mesa Road at about 8 p.m.
The BNSF Railway train hit Camacho's minivan on the passenger side.
He was not wearing a seatbelt, and there was no indication he had consumed alcohol, State Police said.
