ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque woman witnesses said ran a red light and hit a tractor-trailer rig Friday evening has died from her injuries.
Witnesses told police Jane McDonald, 65, was headed north on Jefferson Street NE when she ran a red light at Ellison Street and hit the truck trailer just behind the rear axle of the cab.
The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m.
McDonald was trapped in the wreckage, extricated by Albuquerque Fire Department personnel and taken to UNM Hospital with serious injuries that did not appear to be fatal, according to police.
At the hospital, however, her condition worsened, and she died just before 10 p.m. Police said her family was with her.
The investigating officer reported alcohol appeared not to be a factor in the crash.
The state Motor Transportation Division was contacted to conduct an inspection of the truck. The results of the inspection have not yet been released, and there is no report of any citations being issued.
The truck driver, Moises Herrera, 33, was not injured.
