ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police arrested Amy Herrera Thursday charging her with the murder of her husband, Air Force Major Marc Herrera .
Mrs. Herrera claimed that on July 1, 2012 her husband was suicidal and that he held her hand and forced her to shoot him in the head.
In court documents detectives said the way she claimed the gun was fired and the position they were in just did not match up with her husband’s injuries.
In addition, investigators said a friend of Mrs. Herrera’s came forward saying Amy told them she needed to “tell you the truth about what happened.”
The friend went on to say Herrera said, “I shot him” when the friend said they understood that Marc ‘made’ her shoot him Herrera responded by saying, “no, I killed him.”
Neighbors told News 13 the couple seemed like an average husband and wife saying they were both polite and mostly kept to themselves.
“Never heard them yelling never any noise ya know around the house or the backyard,” Monique Kourdae.
Herrera’s death was originally thought to be a suicide but in August the office of the medical examiner ruled it a homicide and APD started investigating Amy.
The Major’s family told News 13 in an interview last month , they did not believe he would kill himself, they also said they did not know Amy that well because the two had not been married long.
Neighbors said they were shocked to hear she was arrested for Marc’s death.
“I would never, never in my wildest dreams expect her to do that type of thing, she just didn’t seem to be of that nature,” said Kourdae.
Herrera is in the Metro Detention Center on a no bond hold.
Police have not given any details about a possible motive.
