DEMING, N.M. (KRQE) - Charges against the former Luna County Detention Center warden accused of improperly releasing inmates have been dismissed by a District Court judge.

A judge ordered 14 misdemeanor charges against John Krehbiel dropped.

Krehbiel, 51, was charged with deliberately releasing prisoners without orders of release through the county's Recidivism Reduction Program, which is aimed at reducing future offenses.

According to court documents, the incidents involved 13 prisoners and took place between July 2010 and April 2011.

Krehbiel acted properly in releasing the inmates under the program, the judge found.
