ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police released the lapel camera video recording the profanity-filled tirade of an officer as she was being investigated and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.
Albuquerque Police Department officers were called out to an APD sergeant’s home in late July.
The sergeant told the officers his ex-wife, April Sanchez, who was also an APD officer, came over wasted and upset after losing money at a casino.
When he tried to reason with her she lost it and attacked his car with a rock and a key, he said.
In the video you can hear an officer questioning Sanchez about the damage.
“How did his windshield get broken?” the officer asked.
“I don’t know," Sanchez said.
As officers continued to ask Sanchez about what happened, it was clear to them she was hammered and that she might have driven that way.
So the line of questioning changed.
“So you were drinking prior to coming over here?” the officer asked.
Sanchez replied, “Ya, I was.”
When Sanchez admits to the officers she drank before driving over to her ex's house, they decide they need to call in a DWI sergeant, who starts to perform field sobriety tests.
“I don’t know why I’m doing the test because I wasn’t, you didn’t catch me drinking and driving, so like why are you doing the test.” Sanchez asked the sergeant.
Sanchez then refused to complete the test so she was arrested and taken to a police station where she let her co-workers know she was not happy with them.
“I'm in (expletive) handcuffs," Sanchez says in the video. "You guys are treating me like a (expletive) criminal."
When the officer told her they were treating her like everybody else, she continued cursing.
Her rant though did not stop there.
When one of the officers tells her he notified her bosses about what happened, she goes off on the entire department, including the chief.
“Ya know what, I could care less, like all the way up the chain of (expletive) command, I could care (expletive) less, like (expletive) Ray Schultz, (expletive) everyone else,” Sanchez says.
During the incident Sanchez also tried to say she got drunk after driving to her ex’s house.
She was arrested for aggravated DWI and criminal damage to property and quit the force two days later.
At the time of her arrest Sanchez was already on paid suspension, accused of driving her patrol car to a party where she drank in an APD jacket with her gun on her.
