ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Racing legend Al Unser Junior plead guilty to DWI and racing on a Albuquerque freeway Wednesday.
He is known for his feats of speed behind the wheel, but it is what he did in his car in the early hours of September 29th that landed him in trouble and before a judge Wednesday morning.
Unser was arrested at 3 a.m. for drag racing another driver on Paseo Del Norte at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.
He was also drunk and tested twice the presumed level of intoxication
After he was stopped by Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies, he had a lot to saw which was caught on a belt recorder.
Judge Sharon Walton sentenced him to 90 days in jail but then deferred the jail time to 364 days of probation.
Unser apologized to the judge saying he was very sorry for the poor decisions he made last fall.
He must also have an ignition interlock installed in his car.
Unser was arrested for DWI in Las Vegas Nevada five years earlier.
He pleaded no contest in that case.
