ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Their killer remains a mystery, but Albuquerque police have identified the two young women gunned down in an Albuquerque apartment Saturday.
Friends say Naomi Trujillo, 26, was from a small town near Raton. They say she had recently moved to Albuquerque and gotten custody of her 10-year-old son.
Neighbors say May Valerio, 25, was from Taos and would regularly walk her elderly neighbors' pets. They say she had a 2-year-old daughter.
Police have not yet released a motive or arrested a suspect, but friends and neighbors say there was clearly some sort of fight minutes before the murders.
Employees at a bowling alley on Lomas Boulevard NE said Trujillo and Valerio were regulars there. That's where they were playing pool with a man until 2 a.m. Saturday shortly before their murders.
The three were then spotted walking back to Trujillo's apartment at the Warren House next door. Minutes later, a neighbor said he heard a third woman's voice, and he heard arguing and fighting.
That neighbor didn't call police because of Trujillo's recent child custody battle. They didn't want to get her in trouble.
The neighbor then heard Valerio yelling to "take care of your ex-girlfriends".
It wasn't long after that security guards went to check things out. Neighbors say security broke up the fight then left.
About a half hour later, they heard gunshots.
Trujillo and Valerio were both shot. Police say one died at the apartment and the other died at the hospital.
A neighbor said after the gunshots he heard Trujillo crying out for her son. They say neither of the women's children were there during the shooting.
As of Tuesday the children were in the custody of the state Children, Youth and Families Department.
A man was also shot in the apartment. He drove himself to the hospital and is reported to be doing OK now. Police haven't said why he didn't also drive the women to the hospital or if he's the same man spotted with the women earlier.
Police won't say if that third woman heard in the apartment is his ex-girlfriend.
