TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) - A grand jury has indicted man and a woman on murder and arson charges in the fire set to cover up a killing at the former Holy Cross Convent in Taos.
Firefighters responded to the historic building on Aug. 8, and Christian Payton's body was found in rubble in the basement two weeks later.
The Taos News reported a grand jury indicted William Patrick Smith, 23, and Deborah Jaramillo, 28, on charges of first-degree murder, arson and conspiracy.
Jaramillo was arrested last month and Colorado and is still there awaiting extradition.
Smith is jailed in Taos.
