Officer fired over Twitter comments

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - An Albuquerque police detective, who came under fire for comments he posted on Twitter, has been fired.

Pete Dwyer was fired Monday following an internal investigation.

He was put on desk duty in June after posting tweets that Chief Ray Schultz called "violent" and "racial,” which Schultz says violates the department's new social media policy.

Police have also linked Dwyer to Levi Chavez, a former APD officer accused of killing his wife. Authorities are investigating how the vehicle identification number plate from a truck once owned by Dwyer wound up on a similar truck reported stolen by former officer Chavez.

The vin plate, identified in a Mexican police report, was registered to a vehicle formerly owned by Pete Dwyer and it looked as if it might have been tampered with.
