ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police are searching for a man who took off with a truck from a local car dealership on Sunday afternoon.

The truck has been described as black 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 dually with tinted windows. The truck has a temporary license plate from the dealership.

The car was taken from Melloy Dodge Supercenter at the corner of San Mateo and Osuna NE just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

A salesman said he went for a test drive with the thief and then came back to the dealership to fill out paperwork.

While inside, the man said he left his ID in the truck. The salesman then followed the man outside, but walked back into the showroom to get him a gas card.

That's when the salesman said he heard the dually truck fire up and saw the $40,000 car speed of the lot.

The outraged salesman didn't want to show face or reveal his identity.

"I never had that thing happen to me, so I'm just very much in shock to see the guy take off and speed out of the parking lot the way he did," the salesman said. "I hope they catch the guy so they can put him where he needs to be."

The salesman told police that the man filled out paperwork that included a name, an address and a social security number.

Police are now checking on the information to see if it will lead to the suspect or someone who knows him.

The salesman's description of the thief:

  • White man
  • Middle 20s
  • Around six feet tall
  • Had a military style haircut

If you have any information or see the truck, call police at 242-COPS.
