DULCE, N.M. (KRQE) - One of two Colorado jail escapees has been shot and killed near Dulce in northwestern New Mexico, and police are pursuing his companion, New Mexico State Police reported late Thursday afternoon.

According to State Police, Clifford Todd Reseigh, 45, was shot and killed by an officer from Jicarilla Apache tribal police force who was defending himself from an attack. Details of the confrontation have not yet been released.

The second escapee, Jason Snow, 24, fled on foot.

Officers were acting on a report from a passerby who saw the men north of U.S. Highway 64 east of Dulce.  Responding police found the men in an abandoned trailer or RV.

Police from multiple New Mexico agencies are now hunting for Snow.

Archuleta County Undersheriff John Weiss said Colorado authorities are also looking for Snow.

"The (Colorado) Department of Corrections has sent quite a few officers down here of all different specialties and definitely tracking with dogs," he said. "They are offering help to New Mexico."

Police from both states and the Jicarilla and Southern Ute tribes have established a command post just inside New Mexico to coordinate the search.
