Trial date set over bogus NMFA audit

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Former New Mexico Finance Authority controller Greg Campbell is scheduled to stand trial in February on fraud and other charges involving fake financial statements that made the authority's revenues appear stronger in 2011

The Albuquerque Journal reports Campbell waived his right to a formal arraignment Monday.

Campbell left his job with the Finance Authority in June, shortly before the falsified audit was discovered.

He is the only current or former employee of the authority facing charges in the audit scandal, though the authority's former chief executive was fired and the chief operating officer is now longer working there.

Campbell has acknowledged that he faked the audit earlier this year but has said he didn't steal any money. He declined to talk to reporters when leaving court.
