SANTA FE (KRQE) -
The bike is back. A Santa Fe man Thursday recovered the bike stolen there from a Canadian cross-country cyclist.
Colin Sproule had been riding for weeks along the continental divide, when he stopped at a Santa Fe Kmart Wednesday and watched a thief take off on his bike, his only mode of transportation.
Ismael Mena saw our report and Thursday spotted a guy riding the bicycle near his auto repair shop. Mena chased after him until he dropped the bike and ran off, “in New Mexico, I’ve been a victim of bike theft. I'm an avid cyclist myself, and I know what a bike means to somebody putting that much effort into it”, said Mena.
Ismael took the bike and called police. After they inspected it sure enough, the serial number matched Sproule's.
Colin Sproule is still in Santa Fe and should have his bike back Friday.
