SANTA FE (KRQE) - Santa Fe Police said a traffic stop turned into a huge bust after detectives found stolen property, stolen IDs and chemicals to make methamphetamine
Police said at about 1 a.m. Friday officers spotted a car run a red light at the intersection of Cerrillos Road and Richards Avenue. The driver was identified as Justin Stone, 25, and his passenger as Emma Keener, 20.
After detectives learned Keener had warrants out for her arrest and handcuffed her, that is when Stone sped off.
Detectives said he ditched the car in a nearby parking lot. When police caught up with the car Stone was gone, but he left behind a lot of evidence linking the pair to a life of crime.
Lt. Louis Carlos said detectives found a tool box full of chemicals used to make meth in the trunk plus a mini stove in the back seat they believe was used to help cook the drug.
Detectives also found a stolen handgun, ammunition and around six stolen identifications.
“We did tie some of those stolen IDs and the gun to other burglaries that are still open and unsolved,” Carlos said.
Detectives said those unsolved cases are home burglaries in Santa Fe County. Carlos said Stone already had 10 warrants out for his arrest to include burglary and trafficking.
Police said when they catch Stone he is expected to face a new list of charges.
Keener was arrested on her outstanding warrants for aggravated burglary and gun charges. More charges could follow for her for this latest bust.
