ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The two-year old boy hit by a suspected drunk driver is now brain dead and will be taken off life support soon.
Vicente Griego's father tells us his son’s body is being kept alive so that they can donate his organs.
Vicente was in the backseat of his parent's car when cops say Mariano Salaz rear-ended them early Saturday morning on Coors near I-40. Cops say Salaz was very drunk, took off the wrong way down Coors and injured another driver. Cops say he even hit a cop car trying to get away.
Salaz was booked into jail but quickly bonded out . Monday a judge decided he could stay out of jail, citing the 20-year-old's clean record.
But early on Friday afternoon the District Attorney's Office filed an emergency motion in Metropolitan Court asking for a review of Salaz's release. The motion notes the child has died and requests bond for Salaz be increased to $100,000 cash-only.
