ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police arrested a man witnesses say was holding up his 2-year-old daughter by her hair while holding a hammer in his other hand.

Officers say Jwyanza Vallantyne was fighting with the mother of the baby at the Sierra Meadows apartments in northeast Albuquerque Tuesday morning.

Police said a 12-year-old daughter was able to get the toddler out of Vallantyne's hands.

The children were found safe at another apartment.

Vallantyne was arrested a block away from the apartments, which are near Montgomery and Eubank NE.
