ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A 2-year-old died after being left in a hot car for more than two hours at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute.
A woman arrived at SIPI early Wednesday morning with a 4-year-old child and a 2-year-old girl in her car. The mother had an appointment at SIPI with the 4-year-old, so she left the 2-year-old in the car.
At noon on Wednesday, the mother went out to the car and found the 2-year-old, Jahzel Pinon, inside the car. She rushed the child into the day care inside SIPI and they tried to save the young girl's life.
The little girl died about 1:30 p.m. at the hospital.
The mother, Stephanie Pinon, has been charged with child abuse resulting in death. She was released without bond late Wednesday night because officials do not believe she is a flight risk.
Pinon was the mother of four, she had no criminal record.
