LAS CRUCES (KRQE) - Three members of a Deming family accused of selling guns intended for a Mexican drug cartel to a straw buyer were convicted of lesser charges Wednesday.
A federal jury convicted Rick and Terri Reese and their son Ryin, 20, of falsifying federal forms submitted to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives but found them not guilty of the more serious charges.
Another son, Remington Reese, 25, was acquitted of all charges.
The 29-count indictment accused the Reeses of selling guns and ammunition to a federal informant who was claiming the weapons were destined for a Mexican drug cartel.
The Reeses testified they took the man to be a braggart and didn't believe he was linked to Mexican drug dealers.
The family operated New Deal Shooting Sports near Deming.
