ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Official information trickling out on the shooting that killed a politician's son and wounded a second man on Monday now indicates a third person shot both.

A statement released by the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon indicates the shooter and victims were somehow connected.

"This was not a random act of violence toward the victims," the statement released by Public Information Officer Sgt. Sam White said.  "However, we cannot release any more information about the motive or details of the investigation at this time."

Detectives know an unidentified suspect was responsible for the shooting in the 1400 block of La Vega SW, he added.

The surviving victim with gunshot wounds to the back and hip was able to go to a second home nearby and call 911 for help.

Officers responding to the La Vega home found Ralph John Chavez, 45, dead from multiple wounds.

Chavez was the son of Rep. Ernest Chavez, D-Albuquerque, who represents that section of the South Valley in the Legislature.
