Thieves steal family pet

Woman believes someone stole her iguana

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Abby Jacoby is printing out fliers for her missing pet.

When Jacoby’s home was burglarized a couple months ago thieves went after expensive copper pipes. But on Saturday she says her home was robbed again and this time her pet lizard was stolen.

"Maybe he's not always around you and he doesn't make a lot of noise. But he's still a pet and you still love him and you still miss him when he's gone," said Jacoby.

Iggy the iguana has been a part of Jacoby's family for two years. Jacoby had to call her husband, who's in military training in Georgia, and break the bad news to him.

"He's torn apart and I had to call him the other night and tell him what happened. And he's just dying inside," said Jacoby.

She checked every pet shop to see if Iggy was sold, and scoured her Northeast Albuquerque neighborhood looking for a giant tail.

"I'm afraid that someone's either taken him to sell him or kept him for themselves. It sounds bad but iguana is actually considered a delicacy to some people," said Jacoby.

Jacoby says Iggy is worth about $200.

But for Jacoby, it's not about the price. It's about getting back a piece of her family.

Iggy is an about three and a half feet long with a two foot tail. He’s a green and orange color, although that can change colors depending on mood. Jacoby says he turns dark brown when he’s scared and yellow when he’s nervous.

Animal Control was called and a missing animal report was filed.
