AZTEC, N.M. (AP) - A judge who faced scrutiny following a heated argument at a Farmington bar has stepped down from the bench.
Judge Thomas Hynes resigned Wednesday from the 11th Judicial District Court and agreed to never run for any state judicial office.
Hynes told The Daily Times (http://bit.ly/KuHhpz) that he had already been considering retirement.
The Judicial Standards Commission had temporarily suspended Hynes after the owner of Three Rivers Brewery made a complaint.
Hynes got into a verbal altercation at the brewery May 4. Hynes says he lost his temper when a bartender refused to serve him and his girlfriend.
Owner John Silva says Hynes tried to use his position to threaten him, according to a police report. Hynes denies this.
