Suspect in Santa Fe murders still loose

SANTA FE (KRQE) - The manhunt continues for Arthur Anaya who has been on the run since Monday when two of his tenants were gunned down in what Santa Fe County deputies say was a dispute over rent money.

Now investigators are hoping for that one tip that leads them to him.

The U.S. Marshals Service has joined local and state authorities in what's become a nationwide search for Anaya.

On Monday afternoon Anaya, 54, went to collect rent money from tenant Theresa Vigil on Paseo Galisteo south of Santa Fe.

When she told him she didn't have it, they started arguing.

Anaya is accused of then fatally shooting Vigil, 51, and Austin Urbán, 16, who lived at the home with Vigil's daughter.

He fled on foot, and a law enforcement source told KRQE News 13 Anaya didn't take a car or any money when he left.

Anaya is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds.

But one person who knows him well said he's likely been taking drugs and is now around 160 pounds.

Anaya is also known to wear disguises.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call 911 or the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office at (505) 428-3720.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.

Anaya has a lengthy and violent criminal history.

A relative told KRQE News 13 Anaya is unlikely to be taken alive because he doesn't want to go back to prison.
