Camera sends pics of thieves to victims

Booze, ammo, guns and camera stolen

EDGEWOOD, N.M. (KRQE) - From dumb to dumber, two men robbed a national shooting organization and then stole something that automatically sent pictures of their faces to the group they stole from.

The two men, who have not yet been positively identified, stole alcohol, guns and ammo from the Single Action Shooting Society in Edgewood last week. The men also stole a camera they believed had recorded them in the act, but didn’t realize that camera was still on.

Photos show the men kicking over furniture and snapping as they walk through the front door.

Misty Miller of the Society says those pictures are priceless.

“We realized it was a clear picture of them inside a residence somewhere,” said Miller. “That's when it got really kind of funny. It was, you got to be kidding me.”

The men showed up when no one was at the shooting society's Edgewood ranch and kicked down the front door of the main house. They riffled through everything, taking ammo and a lot of booze.

Millers guesses the men stole 30 to 40 large gallon bottles of various liquors.

Then they hustled down the road to the workshop, cut the metal cable and took something more troubling, six antique rifles.

“They are certainly going to raise a red flag if they go and try to sell them,” said Miller.

When the thieves realized there was a security camera attached to a beam in the workshop they decided to take off with it.

The camera starts snapping away when it detects motions and automatically sends those photos back to the owner’s cell phone.

Deputies say they are 90% sure they have identified at least one of the men in the photos and are working to track him down. That suspect apparently has a history of burglary and drug related crimes.
