Police: Neighbor killed in love-triangle shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man suspected of killing his Albuquerque neighbor and taking off to Mora where he allegedly shot at officers is now dead.

Police responded to a home in northeast Albuquerque around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday where they found Greg Miller shot to death outside his home.

State police say Miller was the victim of Wes Brannon, who is now dead after he was involved in a standoff between Mora County deputies and State police.

Officials believe Brannon shot and killed his neighbor, who was seeing his estranged wife, Catherine Sampson-Brannon, before heading north towards Mora.

Police say Brannon was headed to his estranged wife’s home in Mora. Catherine, who was on the phone with police, identified Brannon outside of her home with a gun.

Detectives told her to call local police for help, State Police and Mora County Sheriff’s then responded to the residence.

Mr. Brannon left the area before officers arrived.

Officers were able to safely transport Catherine away from her residence.

Around noon Brannon crashed his car into a Mora County Sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle and attempted to take off when officers opened fire on the car.

Officers attempted to get Brannon out of the car with verbal commands but he would not respond. When they approached Brannon’s car they found him dead.

Preliminary evidence indicates that both State Police and Mora County Deputies fired at the suspect.

At this time it is unknown whether the man’s fatal gunshot was self inflicted or occurred during the shoot out with officers.
