ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man who broke his mother's arm and was barricaded in a closet threatening to kill himself and his wife is now in police custody.
Details of the takedown by the Albuquerque Police Department SWAT team were not immediately available although an APD spokesman said the wife is unharmed.
Police were called to 220 Western Skies SE shortly after 1 p.m. where the mother said she was trying to stop her son from taking her car. In the ensuing struggle, the man broke his mother's arm, according to police.
The man and his wife then fled on foot and broke into a nearby home on Hanosh Court where police say they went into a closet and refused to come out.
The man claimed to have a razor and said he would kill his wife and himself if police didn't leave.
The scene was south of Central Avenue and east of Juan Tabo Boulevard.
