Shooting victim IDed as murder suspect

ALBUQUERQUE (KREZ-KRQE/AP) - San Juan County officials said a man hospitalized in Albuquerque with a gunshot wound to the head is a suspect in shooting of a woman in Blanco.

Manuel Gutierrez III is in critical condition at an Albuquerque hospital after he was found with a gunshot wound to the head near an Albuquerque ditch on Monday.

A San Juan County Sheriff's Department spokesperson said Gutierrez was identified through fingerprints.

Gutierrez is suspected of fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend, Kristin Chavez, 28, at the couple's Blanco home on Sunday. He's wanted on an open count of murder.
