ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A Juvenile Detention Center corrections officer has been charged with raping and impregnating a juvenile in his care.
Police tracked down Edward Edmon, 41, known as “Mr. Ed” according to criminal complaint, after the victim said she became pregnant while in custody and identified him as the father.
This is the second time this year a Juvenile Detention Center employee has been charged with having sex with an inmate.
In this latest allegation, Edmon allegedly told the victim they wouldn’t be caught because he knew where the blind spots on the surveillance cameras were.
In August, another corrections officer, Lara Sterosky was charged with raping a teen after deputies say a surveillance camera caught part of the alleged encounter .
"We have a great staff and this is a very small percentage of the staff that is involved in this,” said Larry Gallegos, spokesperson for Bernalillo County. “I don't want this to reflect on the good staff we have there that work hard every day and really care about the kids we have there."
The Juvenile Detention Center does background checks on employees before their hire.
Edmon has three prior misdemeanors on his record – two are domestic - but no convictions.
