ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - San Juan County will have to pay $250,000 to the American Indian man struck in the head with a flashlight by a former sheriff's deputy.
Images captured on an in-car patrol camera show Donovan Tanner, 20, being struck at least five times in the head with a flashlight, by former sheriff's deputy Dale Frazier.
Tanner says that his civil rights were violated, motivated by race, when Frazier unlawfully detained and arrested him last St. Patrick's day.
Tanner's attorney says that despite post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from the beating, his client is doing fine.
