ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police tangled with a stolen-car suspect Friday morning leading to crashes, a foot chase and an officer smacking the alleged bad guy with his patrol car.
Police were called to the Smith's store on Tramway Boulevard SE at Central Avenue about 9:30 a.m. after someone reported a suspicious vehicle.
When an officer arrived and got out to investigate, the suspect drove off smashing into the officer's squad car before he headed south on Tramway, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman said.
A short distance away the fleeing suspect crashed into an unsuspecting motorist disabling both vehicles. From there the suspect took off on foot into a neighborhood.
The manhunt ended when another officer was driving down Rachel Road as the suspect suddenly ran out of a yard and into the street. The officer was unable to avoid hitting the suspect, who was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for what are not believed to be serious injuries, police said.
The suspect's name has not been released, and it's not yet known what charges he faces.
