Robber takedown may clear 4 bank heists

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The mustachioed Albuquerque bandit may have hit the same bank twice just three days apart, but the second time police took him down right outside.

Around 4:30 pm, Friday another bank robbery sent police to the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union on Coors Boulevard NW at Sequoia for a second time this week.

The FBI said the suspect arrested is James Charles Mollohan, 35. He’s now facing federal charges.

FBI would not confirm Mollohan is the man who they had been looking for who held up four banks and a Walgreens in a matter of weeks. However, tellers inside the credit union told police it was the same robber they had seen just days before.

While the FBI asked KRQE News 13 to blur the suspect’s face to avoid compromising a photo lineup, he does look a lot like the man seen in several surveillance photos from recent bank heists.

The robber first hit a Bank of Albuquerque Jan. 12 also at Coors and Sequoia. A surveillance picture provided the first glimpse of the robber with the recognizable mustache.

Then last week the man struck again at a U.S. Bank on Montgomery.

This week there was one robbery after another with the robber getting more and more brazen. He held up a Walgreens in Old Town at gunpoint and three more banks on Coors : New Mexico Bank & Trust near Montaño, a Wells Fargo near Sequoia and the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union at Sequoia where he flashed a gun.

That is the same bank that was robbed late Friday afternoon where he again had a gun.

Police unloaded several rounds from his gun and found a bandana full of cash, too.

Mollohan is expected to appear in federal court in Albuquerque on Monday.
