ESPANOLA, N.M. (KRQE) - Allegations that a 911 call was ignored by New Mexico State Police have added to questions regarding a weekend homicide in Chimayo.
Juanito Martinez, 24, of Espanola was found shot to death in a front yard on County Road 91.
According to a Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Official, a resident called 911 around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after hearing gunshots fired.
The Sheriff’s office says for some reason State Police did not respond.
Rio Arriba Sheriff’s responded to the scene after another 911 phone call came in hours later after a resident discovered the victim’s body.
State police officials say they can’t comment on the 911 issue at this point but say they are investigating it internally.
There is no information available on whether anyone has been arrested in the shooting.
