LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A federal judge has denied a request to release the youngest member of a New Mexico family accused of smuggling guns to Mexican cartel members.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Brack ruled against the release Monday for 19-year-old Remington Reese. Defense attorney Paul Rubino was seeking Reese's release to his grandparents.

Federal authorities seized more than 1,200 firearms and nearly 2 million rounds of ammunition when they raided a family-run Deming, N.M., gun shop last month. The raid was part of a multi-agency investigation into illegal gun sales and smuggling.

Reese, his father, 55-year-old Rick Resse, mother 48-year-old Terri and brother 24-year-old Ryin, are part of a 30-count indictment that accuses them of smuggling guns to Mexico.

A trial date has not been scheduled.
