ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Many times heroes go unsung, but on Tuesday 11 were recognized by the American Red Cross during the Real Heroes awards breakfast at the Sheraton Uptown.
The sold-out event recognized people who stepped in beyond the call of duty to help others.
Also, agencies that responded to the Emcore Corp. shooting rampage last year received the humanitarian award. Two Emcore workers died and three were injured before the gunman, a former Emcore employee targetting his ex-girfriend, shot himself to death.
"Many lives were saved while they risked their own in the process," Emcore Chief Executive Officer Hung Hou said. "We are extremely grateful for your world-class response, bravery, compassion and professionalism."
The complete list of winners and their accomplishments is posted on the American Red Cross Rio Grande Chapter website.
News 13's Skyranger helicopter crew was recognized for assisting officers searching for gunmen at the Emcore scene.
