ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A grand jury on Wednesday indicted Christopher Rains on nine felony counts, including murder, for the shooting death of his 9-month-old daughter just over two weeks ago.

If convicted on all counts, Rains, 22, could be sentenced to two life terms plus 68 and a half years in prison, according to the Bernalillo County District Attorney's Office.

According to the indictment, Rains had allegedly abused the girl and her mother from Feb. 17 to Nov. 30.

On Dec. 1, Rains allegedly shot the girl, Trinity, in the head after getting into an argument with her mother about seeing her with another man.

He called 9-1-1 after the shooting and told dispatchers, "I just killed my daughter," according to the indictment.

Pat Davis with the DA's office said the woman had told investigators that Rains had pointed a gun at the child on at least two other occasions before that argument.

Rains will face the charges against him in the next few weeks. He's being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

For the child's death, Rains faces charges of child abuse resulting in death, an open count of murder and kidnapping.

He also faces charges of assault with intent to commit a violent felony against a household member and kidnapping for what happened to the mother during the argument. The assault charge carries a firearm enhancement.

Rains also faces child abuse, aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon and two counts of kidnapping for the alleged abuse between February and November. Each of those four charges carries a firearm enhancement.
