Prostitution up on valentines day

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Valentines Day is supposed to be a day for romance, but it also brings in a lot of extra cash for a lot of businesses, including prostitution.
It is one of the busiest days of the year for prostitutes which makes it one of the busiest days for Albuquerque vice officers too. Both are keeping a close eye on web sites like Backpage.com .
Lots of holiday specials are advertised on that site, especially during Valentines, Christmas and New Years.
Police say usually there are about a half dozen ads on the sex portion of the site, but on Valentines Day those numbers more than quadruple.
"Here's an ad that says let me be your extra naught Valentine Day treat, so she's actually using this holiday as a marketing tool," said an undercover detective.
Detectives say prostitutes come to Albuquerque during the holidays because johns here are willing to pay more than other cities of similar size.
They say Albuquerque also has a reputation for busting people involved in prostitution.
