CLINES CORNERS, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police are investigating a report that state Public Regulation Commissioner Sandy Jones was shot at Friday while parked on the side of Interstate 40 near Clines Corners.

Jones was not injured, but the back passenger window of his truck was shot out while he was sitting in it.

Cristal Jones, his daughter and spokeswoman, said the commissioner had pulled over and was talking on his cell phone on the side of the road when the window was shot out. She said her father believes a van was passing by at the time.

Sandy Jones was on his way to a meeting in Hobbs when the shooting happened. He was able to flag down a state police officer and make a report.

Jones, a Democrat, is running for state land commissioner.
