ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - Police in southeastern New Mexico are keeping an eye out for a potential child predator trying to lure kids away.
A frightened mom reported to Roswell police she's seen the suspicious man more than once eyeing young children. At one point he even offered them money, she told officers.
The man was first spotted just over a week ago driving in the 600 block of East Wildy Street in Roswell.
A man described as in his 40s or 50s driving a white older-model car with a gray right-front fender was seen parked across the street from a group of homes.
A 9-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother were playing outside when police said the man held out his hand from the vehicle and offered the kids cash.
The kids began walking toward his car but then stopped and called for their mom. When that happened, the man sped off.
"It could have been a potentially dangerous situation if the children had gotten into the car, and nobody knew who this person was," said Sabrina Morales, public-information liaison for the Roswell Police Department.
Days later, the kids' mother said the suspicious man was back, and she called police.
"The Roswell Police Department just wants to encourage parents and adults to teach their children about stranger danger and how to keep themselves safe from possible child predators," said Morales.
The mother was not able to get the vehicle's license plate, but she said the man has gray hair on the sides of his head and is bald on top.
In August, another child reported a man coming up to him and offering them cash and candy to get into his truck. That man was later identified as Samuel Guerrero, 23. He was arrested, but later bonded out.
Police said Guerrero does not match the description of the new suspect.
